Author/Illustrator Visits Grosse Ile School

Marie-Louise Gay

Last week was Book Week at Grosse Ile School.  The students participated in many book activities.

We started the week with a literacy day throughout the school and local author, Winston Clarke, visited to read to the students and talk about his children’s book, Should Ants Wear Pants.  During literacy day the whole school read at the same time for twenty minutes.  Elementary students wore costumes of favorite book characters and shared their favorite books with classmates.  Participation prizes were handed out for the costume activity for each class and points went to the two house teams.  The Falcons received the most points for this event.

All week long children participated with their own teachers and classes in many other fun book week activities.

Friday was a really special treat! The elementary students met author/illustrator Marie-Louise Gay. She did a wonderful presentation on what she does and on her books. She was an excellent speaker and presented many aspects of the book making process.  Some students were lucky enough to receive an autographed copy of one of her books in a participation draw.

I thank all who participated in this fun week!
